My new favourite beach to visit is Redcliffe... Granted, it is not the most beautiful beach on the South East Queensland coastline... BUT in under an hour you're out of Brisbane's stifling heat and in the water. And more importantly, Obi can go craaaaazy!

Pop My Art Please!

Pascoe Pop Art is giving away a free canvas Pop Artwork to the winning entry.

For all of February, we're asking you, our valued visitors, to email us any photos that you think would look good in Pop Art... your kids, yourself, your new set of golf clubs... anything you like! (Keeping in mind we want to keep our website to a G rating of course!) At the end of February, I'm going to post our favourite 3 shots on this blog, and leave it to a vote. We'll turn the winner's photo into a piece of canvas-printed Pascoe Pop Art and send it to them absolutely free.

They don't have to be high resolution professional shots. Some of our favourite artworks have actually been based on low-resolution, low-light shots taken with camera phones, like our feature portrait for this month - 'The Lovers'. Try looking for creative angles, animated or thoughtful expressions and interesting poses instead.

So if you've been meaning to do something with your favourite digital shots, here's your chance to turn them into a piece of art - for free!

1. Email me (rachel@pascoepopart.com) with "Pop My Art Please" in the subject line and attach some of your favourite digital pics that you think would look good in Pop Art.
2. Tell me why you would like to turn these photos into Pop Art.
3. If you have an idea for the Pop Art style and colours you would like to be used for your photo, let us know.
4. Check back to the site regularly for updates. The top 3 entries will be published on the website at the end of February and the winner will be notified by email, and will receive their Pop Art canvas 5-10 working days later.

Pascoe Pop Art donates 10% to MSF...

"There is one illness that is tearing communities apart. This illness affects some 60 million children. What’s more, it’s a killer. At least 5 million children die from its effects every year. This illness is malnutrition."

Thanks to all our customers who purchased their own piece of Pascoe Pop Art in November and December 2006, we have been able to make our first official donation to Medecins Sans Frontieres of 10% of all sales proceeds.

We donated specifically to the MSF 'Malnutrition Appeal' which funnels money directly towards providing urgently-needed food supplements to malnourished children around the world. A new vitamin-rich 'Ready-to-use Therapeutic Food' has been developed which is eaten directly from the packet and thus allows the family to administer it to the child in their own home instead of having to travel away from their homes and livelihoods to get to medical facilities. Furthermore, unlike other milk-powder based supplements, it does not need mixing with water, which has been an ongoing problem in communities with no access to a hygienic water supply.

According to MSF, our donation will "help to set up an ambulatory feeding programme, reaching out to hundreds of vulnerable families".

Woodford 2006

What a fantastic event it is every year. From the 27th December to 2 January every year, a small little town called Woodford just inland from the Sunshine Coast, invites hundreds of thousands of people to camp in a field and have their senses overloaded on fabulous and original entertainment. All kinds of music from all over the world, comedy, dance workshops, craft, stalls, forums on current events and issues... you name it you've got it!



Matt and I just went up for the 27th and 28th. One problem about the festival being so awesome is that its getting more and more popular every year, and closer to New Years gets a bit full on, so we decided to just enjoy it in the warming up stages. Did I say warming up? It was bloody freezing. It poured raining the whole of the first day and night and I was cold! haha though I just noticed the photos don't exactly reflect the bitter cold quite as I remember it!

Some of my favourites...


Tripod - well-known Australian musical comedians that had the audience in stitches from start to finish... their first gig with a mosh-pit packed to the brim, they say.



Troy 'n' Trevelyn - an Aboriginal and Zimbabwean couple based in Brisbane with a great sound - kind of a reggae/funk but with didge and really beautiful vocals from Trevelyn. We actually ran into them again the other day at Tongue n Groove in West End and they seem to go by the name of Banawaran these days. Was a great gig in such a tiny venue.



Batacuda Sound Machine - 12 mad musicians from around the globe creating a massive sound with a high-octane brew of Brazilian groove, afro-beat and raw hip-hop!






That One Guy - yup, that's what he's called. And I really don't know how to describe him. Wait, I'll check the website...

Sean Choolburra - an Aboriginal comedian who gives the audience a blend of hilarious black fella yarns, didgeridoo playing and dancing. I loved it!

Happy 2007!

My how time flies when you're having fun.

Well 2006 ended pretty well for this chick. We managed to get all our Pascoe Pop Art orders out in time for Christmas, though it got a wee bit hectic there for a while. It was a great feeling when we closed down the computers on the 23rd, knowing our work had been done and we wouldn't have to open them for at least a few days!

Christmas was great. Family gathering at Bush Haven, Bell - my parents' farm 3 hours west of Brissie. Lots of food. Lots of Christmas cheer. Lots of food. Good country home cooking! Weather was extremely bizaar... usually Christmas involves a lot of wingeing (mostly on my part) about how bloody hot it is. Christmas day was very mild this year, and Boxing Day we had the heaters on all day! There was even talk of lighting the fire! Unbelievable.
